As a new hire, the information you receive in the first few months can be overwhelming. The following resources will guide you through your arrival and development on campus.

Register for Iowa New Faculty Orientation (INFO)
Start your Iowa journey by joining us at INFO for a welcoming, high-impact introduction to the university. Connect with colleagues, engage with campus leaders, hear directly from President Barbara Wilson and Provost Kevin Kregel, and begin building the networks that will support your success.
Explore the Online INFO Course
To complement the in-person experience, explore the INFO course for additional orientation content, resources, and guidance you can access at your own pace. From introductions to campus culture and expectations to teaching, research, and support resources, this course serves as a centralized hub to help you navigate your first year and beyond. This course is only accessible via this portal to the log-in screen. You must have an active HawkID to access this course. New faculty will be pre-enrolled. If you would like to request access, please email faculty@uiowa.edu.
Upon Your Arrival
Collegiate/Departmental Orientation
Your college and department may provide orientation opportunities which may be mandatory. Please connect with your local HR representative for more information.
Required Actions
- Employment eligibility verification - your HR representative will reach out to you to coordinate this process; faculty are required to complete the federal form I-9 within three business days of their first day of work. → List of acceptable documents
- Photo ID card - the Iowa One Card for campus or UI Health Care badge for health care serves as your key to access many services and facilities at the university. → ID Card Programs
- Two-Step Login - two-step login provides an extra layer of security and is required on websites and services like MyUI, ICON, Office 365, and Employee Self-Service. → Multifactor Authentication
- Complete benefits enrollment - As a new hire, you should receive an email from University Benefits to your uiowa.edu account within your first week. Don't hesitate to contact University Benefits if you do not receive it. You have 30 calendar days of hire to enroll in your benefits and 60 calendar days to select your retirement enrollment. → Benefits Enrollment for New UI Employees
- Payroll Services - complete your form W-4 (tax withholding), set up direct deposit, verify your mailing address, approve release of payroll information, and opt to receive year-end tax forms electronically through Employee Service. → Time and Pay
- Complete mandatory trainings - Harassment Prevention Education, FERPA, Free Speech, and Conflict of Interest (eCOI) are mandatory for all faculty; your local HR representative may have additional mandatory trainings required within your department. → My Compliances
