The Office of the Provost has primary responsibility for overseeing faculty related activities. Final responsibility for promotion and tenure decisions for all colleges rest with the provost.
It is the provost's responsibility to ensure that promotion and tenure policies and procedures yield faculty with the strongest possible credentials in and commitments to teaching, research and scholarship, and service. The Office of the Provost encourages and supports college- and department-level efforts to recruit and retain a faculty of national and international distinction, and fosters new initiatives to aid colleges in their recruitment and retention efforts. The Office of the Provost is responsible for submitting several faculty-related annual governance reports to the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, including reports on faculty activities, promotion and tenure, faculty diversity, salaries and benefits, resignation and retirement, and professional development assignments.
