Administrative shift aims to strengthen academic partnerships while maintaining student support services
Wednesday, June 25, 2025

Student Disability Services (SDS), which currently operates within the Division of Student Life, will transition to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost on July 1, 2025. This administrative change will not impact the services SDS provides or the staff who deliver them.

SDS will continue to offer the same high-quality support to students, facilitating academic accommodations and providing an environment where students with disabilities have opportunities to thrive in and out of the classroom. The physical location, phone number, and email address for the office will remain the same. However, the SDS website will change to sds.provost.uiowa.edu on July 1.

“This move reflects the important role SDS plays in supporting the academic success of our students,” says Tanya Uden-Holman, associate provost for undergraduate education and dean of University College. “The office already collaborates closely with faculty and academic units, and this transition will help deepen those relationships and enhance our shared efforts to foster a more accessible learning environment.”

SDS has established strong ties with academic units across campus as well partnerships with departments in the Division of Student Life. Those collaborations will remain an important part of SDS’s work moving forward.

“As part of the Division of Student Life, SDS has played a vital role in creating a welcoming and supportive campus community,” says Sarah Hansen, vice president for student life. “We’re confident that this new alignment will help SDS expand its impact while continuing to serve students with care and commitment.”
