The SPOT (Student Perceptions of Teaching) survey has nine questions: three instructor-focused, three course-focused, and three open-ended questions. Colleges also have the option to add up to three additional questions.
Likert scale 1-6 as currently exists (will not change except the addition of N/A), N/A is default option with 1-6 following in order.
Instructor-focused questions
- Organization — The instructor used class time well
- Clarity — The instructor communicated course material clearly
- Learning Focused — The instructor’s teaching methods helped students learn
Course-focused questions
- Learning Materials — The assignments, readings, and activities facilitated student learning
- Assessment — Assessments (such as quizzes, papers, and exams) aligned with course objectives
- Support — Help was available for students
College-specific questions (optional; using Likert scale, no more than three questions)
Overall, open-ended questions
- What aspects of the course were most useful for your learning?
- When this class is taught again, what changes can the instructor make that will help improve support for student learning?
- What else would you like the instructor to know about your experience in this course?
