Tanya Uden-Holman

Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of the University College
Biography

Dr. Tanya Uden-Holman serves as associate provost for undergraduate education and dean of University College, roles she has held since June 2018. She is also a clinical professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy in the College of Public Health, with a secondary appointment in the College of Nursing. 

As associate provost and dean, Dr. Uden-Holman provides strategic oversight for a broad portfolio of units that advance undergraduate student success, including the Academic Advising Center, Pomerantz Career Center, Student Disability Services, Orientation Services, Office of Student Learning, Pathways to Excellence Office, University Honors Program, Debate Program, ROTC, and IVETs. She also oversees several offices or units that support academic operations and teaching effectiveness such as the Center for Teaching, Office of Assessment, and Distance and Online Education. 

Dr. Uden-Holman leads campus-wide efforts to implement the University of Iowa’s strategic plan priorities related to excellence in teaching and learning and student success. She coordinates initiatives that promote evidence-based teaching practices, expand academic guidance and support, elevate mentoring, and improve access to high-impact educational opportunities.

Prior to joining the Office of the Provost, Dr. Uden-Holman served for 14 years as associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Public Health. Throughout her career, she has been a champion for educational innovation and comprehensive student support systems. Her work reflects a deep commitment to fostering an academic environment where all students have the resources and opportunities to thrive.
