Mike Sebastian

Biography

Mike is the senior Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Teaching. In this role, he works closely with programs including the annual New TA Orientation, Graduate Teaching Fellows, DEI in Teaching Practice, TILE, and the Teaching Groups. Mike’s scholarly interests and research include supporting international graduate students like himself, art education curricula, assessment in the arts, and the integration of the arts in STEM fields. 

While in his MFA program, Mike taught sculpture as instructor of record for six semesters at the University of Iowa. He has taught K-12 art classes and volunteers in youth programs as an art teacher. Before moving to the US, Mike worked as a photographer and visual artist in Berlin, Germany. In 2021 he won a POD (Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education) career development grant, a competitive award for graduate students, professional students, or postdocs interested in a career in educational development or as teaching faculty.
