Guidance for Faculty Offer Letters

 

The offer letter is a formal document that outlines the terms of appointment between the University of Iowa and a prospective faculty member. Additionally, the offer letter plays an essential role in setting the tone for welcoming a new faculty member, confirming the verbal agreement (between the faculty member and the University), and clarifying the expectations and commitments of both parties. While each college may develop their own unique offer letter language; we offer the following guidance, based on faculty classification, regarding what should be included in this important document.
