By telling us about your satisfaction, sense of belonging, and financial concerns you experience at Iowa, you are making the university a better place for future Hawkeyes.

This survey is voluntary and confidential. Information that might identify individual students will not be included in survey results. Participants will verify that they are UI students by logging in with their HawkID and password. A 20% discount code for an item from the Iowa Hawk Shop will be sent to your uiowa.edu email address after you complete the survey. Your contact information will not be connected to your survey responses.

About the Survey

The student experience survey is a campus-wide project to survey all Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD students at the University of Iowa. We invite students to tell us about their UI experience, including their perspective on the sense of belonging, satisfaction, and financial concerns they experienced as a student.

Who can participate in the survey?

The survey is open to all University of Iowa degree-seeking undergraduate students and graduate students in master’s and doctoral programs overseen by the Graduate College.

Are responses confidential?

Yes, all responses are confidential. While you will log in using your Hawk ID to access the survey, this information is used solely to verify eligibility, prevent multiple submissions, and trigger an email to those who complete the survey with a 20% discount code for an item at the Iowa Hawk Shop. Individual responses will not be linked to your identity, and results will only be reported in aggregate form.

How do I access the survey?

You can access the survey through the links provided on the Iowa Student Experience Survey webpage. There are separate questions for undergraduate and graduate students, so please select the survey option that applies to you. The survey will be open from April 7 – May 16, 2025.

How long does it take?

The survey is designed to be concise and should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

How will the data be used?

The data collected will be used to assess and enhance various aspects of the student experience at the University of Iowa, including academic programs, campus services, and support systems. By understanding student perspectives, the university can implement data-driven improvements to better serve the student community.

How does the discount code work?

Upon completing the survey, you will be emailed a 20% discount code redeemable at the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore. The code will be applicable for one apparel or gift item. Additional details and restrictions will be included in the email. 

Can I take the survey more than once?

No, each student is allowed to complete the survey only once. Logging in with your Hawk ID ensures that all responses are unique and that each student contributes equally to the survey results.

What will the survey ask about?

The survey will cover topics such as:

  • Financial concerns, basic needs, and student employment
  • Sense of belonging
  • Academic success and satisfaction

Can I complete the survey on my phone?

Yes! The survey is mobile-friendly and can be accessed on laptops, desktops, and mobile devices.

Who is conducting this survey?

The Office of the Provost and the Graduate College are sponsoring the survey, with the Office of Assessment overseeing administration and reporting.

Is participation mandatory?

No, participation in the survey is voluntary. However, every response is important and helps the university make informed decisions to improve student services and support.
