On behalf of the UI First-Generation Task Force, I am pleased to announce that we are now accepting nominations for the 2021 1stGen@Iowa Awards. These awards recognize first-generation student achievements as well as outstanding advocacy and support efforts of faculty and staff. Recipients of this year’s awards will be honored in November during our annual National First-Generation College Celebration week. More information about the 1stGen@Iowa initiative, and first-generation students in general, can be found on the 1stGen@Iowa website.
FIRST-GENERATION STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: The First-Generation Student Achievement Award honors one first-generation undergraduate student and one graduate or professional first-generation college student who has pursued and met ambitious educational goals and demonstrated commitment to academic excellence. AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING FIRST-GENERATION STUDENT ADVOCACY: The Award for Outstanding First-Generation Student Advocacy honors one faculty member and one staff member or administrator who supports first-generation students' education and serves as an exemplary advocate for first-generation students at the University of Iowa. It is not required that nominees have identified as first-generation college students themselves. All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to make nominations for any four of these awards.
Nominations for all four 1stGen@Iowa Awards are due by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 8th.
