Thanks to funding from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), and in collaboration with Xavier University, the University of Iowa's Center for Teaching is delighted to host members of the UI community and colleagues from 12 other institutions for an interactive session exploring the power and potential of faculty-student partnerships.

Dr. Cook-Sather has developed internationally recognized programs that position students and teachers as pedagogical partners, published over 165 articles, book chapters, invited forewords, nine books, spoken or consulted on pedagogical partnership work in 13 countries on six continents, and played key roles in founding three journals: Teaching and Learning Together in Higher Education, International Journal for Students as Partners, and International Journal of Student Voice. Dr. Cook-Sather is the recipient of the Alumni Excellence in Education Award from the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University.

In this session, Dr. Cook-Sather will define and describe pedagogical partnerships and provide an overview of the premises and foundations for this work. In addition, she will offer examples of curriculum- and pedagogy-focused partnership at multiple levels and examples of partnership in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) work. There will be time for participants to collaboratively engage in breakout rooms, and Dr. Cook-Sather will provide a set of questions to guide planning for partnership work. The session will conclude with time for questions, inspirations, and aspirations in relation to pedagogical partnership.

Dr. Cook-Sather's talk is part of an HHMI-funded pilot related to the Center for Teaching’s Students as Partners program
