BTAA-ALP develops the leadership and managerial skills of faculty who have demonstrated exceptional ability and administrative promise and is designed to facilitate the advancement of talented faculty who are interested in pursuing higher education administration.

BTAA-ALP Modules

The BTAA ALP consists of six modules over five sessions. Welcome and introductions, along with modules 3 and 4 will be held virtually. Modules 1 and 2 will be presented in-person at the University of Nebraska; modules 5 and 6 will be presented in-person at Penn State.

The program is specifically designed to address the challenges of academic administration at major research universities and to help faculty members prepare to meet those challenges. For further detail, see the  ALP Goals and Objectives.

On-Campus Activities

In addition to the BTAA-ALP sessions, the University of Iowa provides complementary on-campus opportunities with select campus leaders and debriefing meetings to facilitate making connections and understand how our institution may differ from others in the Big Ten.

Session topics include academic leadership; the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion and globalization; trends in undergraduate education and learning environment; research enterprise; external relations; staff support/development; and money management. A panel of deans will also provide insights into leadership development.
