University of Iowa

Your help with an important study of faculty activity

To:
Full-Time Faculty
From:
Tom Vaughn, Faculty Senate President

Dear Faculty Member:

I write to ask your help with a very important data collection effort that will take place over the course of the spring 2017 semester.

The three Regent universities are participating in a study of faculty activity. All full-time faculty members at the three universities will be asked to complete an online reporting form describing how they spend their work time during a randomly assigned one-week period during the semester. This information (which will be reported in the aggregate only to the Board of Regents, State of Iowa) will help the universities educate external constituencies about the wide range of important activities that comprise faculty responsibilities.

Please keep an eye out for the e-mail with instructions for completing the form. Each week over eight weeks of the spring semester (starting the week of January 23 and excluding spring break and the week prior), a different group of faculty will receive those instructions in an e-mail from the three university provosts and Faculty Senate presidents.

PLEASE NOTE: For this purpose and to make sure you receive other important information, please make sure your e-mail client is not configured to send messages from the Qualtrics survey engine to your "junk mail" folder. The "sender" of the message will be noreply@qemailserver.com (although it will appear in your in box as coming from the Office of the Provost).

I urge you to complete the reporting form promptly and accurately. As you know, higher education in general is under increased scrutiny, and this documentation of our many and varied activities will be a critical resource in the effort to help Iowans understand the value you bring to the state.

Thanks in advance for your participation,

Tom Vaughn
Faculty Senate President
