Nominations now being accepted for the 2013-2014 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards

The University of Iowa Council on Teaching announces the 26th annual Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards and invites nominations for 2013-14.  This award recognizes teaching assistants who have demonstrated outstanding ability as teachers at the University of Iowa.

Teaching assistants from all academic units may be nominated.  Nominees must have a formal appointment as a teaching assistant and certify that they have had formal student contact during at least one of the following semesters: Spring 2013, Summer 2013, and/or Fall 2013.  A teaching assistant who won an award in the past may not be nominated again.

Nominations may be initiated by students, faculty, colleagues, departmental executive officers (DEOs) or deans.  Self-nominations are not allowed.  Nominations must follow the guidelines specified in the directions.  All materials must be submitted to the nominee’s teaching department for the DEO’s signature.  The DEO will then forward the nominations to the Council on Teaching in care of Jennifer Montgomery, in the Office of the Provost.

Please help publicize the award by informing students, faculty, and staff who may be interested in nominating someone.  This memo, directions and a cover sheet are also available from the Council on Teaching’s website at www.uiowa.edu/~cot/.  The nominations are due to the Departmental Executive Office of the teaching department by Monday, March 17, 2014 and to Jennifer Montgomery in the Office of the Provost by Monday, March 24 2014.

In the interest of fairness to those who meet the deadline, late nominations will NOT be accepted.  For further information, contact Shelly Campo (shelly-campo@uiowa.edu or 335-9097) or Jennifer Montgomery (Jennifer-j-montgomery@uiowa.edu or 335-3565).
