Highlights of recent/upcoming activity:

  • Upcoming meeting of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa: August 7-8 at Iowa State University.

  • ITS will soon begin migrating student e-mail to Microsoft Office 365, providing them with larger mailboxes (25 GB vs. 1 GB today) and a full portfolio of communication and collaboration tools: (Excel, Power Point, Word, OneNote, instant messaging, video conferencing, and online meetings).  ITS plans to migrate all first-year students to the service before the fall semester begins, and remaining students will be migrated throughout the fall semester and will receive notification when the move is scheduled.  To learn more, see

  • With the UI’s first high performance computing (HPC) cluster, Helium, operating near capacity, Information Technology Services is now building a second cluster, Neon, that will be open to researchers by the year’s end.  In addition, ITS is launching a Research Data Storage Service (RDSS) to provide a shared, accessible 3-terabyte network drive space that’s large enough to accommodate the majority of research needs. The service is targeted at the 80% of research groups that have 20% of the data.  For more information, see
