Highlights of recent/upcoming activity:

  • Highlights of the February 5-6 meeting of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa (Cedar Falls)
  • Next meeting of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa: March 12, 2014, Iowa City
  • The Learning Commons project has won the Masters Award in the $5-$10 million category from the Master Builders of Iowa.  There were roughly 100 submissions from all over the state.  This is the first time a UI project has won the award.
  • UI Center for Human Rights (UICHR) Working Group Initiative: Faculty and staff may apply for funding ($1,000) to support cross-disciplinary projects, multidisciplinary reading groups, visiting lecturers or other activities exploring human rights with colleagues in the 2014-2015 academic year via this initiative. The deadline for applications has been extended to March 24, 2014.  Applications are available at  UICHR Assistant Director Amy Weismann ( would be happy to visit with interested faculty or staff individually about ideas and to assist with efforts to engage with others to pursue them. 
  • tech and business tutorials now available to entire campus: All students and employees now have free access to, an industry leader in online software training. is accessible anytime, anywhere to enhance technology and professional skills.  The site features over 100,000 video tutorials on topics such as: Microsoft Office products, Windows and Mac OS, Adobe Suite, Apple products, Web and mobile app design, development and programming, Google products, and business skills.   • New-and-improved ICON coming May 29: UI students and instructors can look forward to a significant upgrade to Iowa Courses Online (ICON) this spring. With the latest version of the course-management system, instructors can more easily add and rearrange course content, and can use new progress tools that provide a quick comparison of how students are doing. Students can sign up for alerts for deadlines, grades, or discussion posts.  ITS will provide plenty of support to guide campus through the transition, and has already kicked off training with faculty and campus IT professionals. It’s important to note that ICON will be unavailable on May 27-28 for the transition. ITS will contact summer session students and instructors directly to make them aware well in advance.   • P&S:  50% or greater in Executive Classifications, including President, Exec VP & Provost, VPs, Dean, University Librarian
  • All UI researchers who are identified as “key personnel” on a UI routing form submitted to Sponsored Programs or an IRB application.
