Invitation to attend Provost's Global Forum

As you know, the annual University of Iowa Provost’s Global Forum brings together faculty experts and leading international voices from a variety of fields to inspire discussions of global affairs.

The topic of the 2019 Provost’s Global Forum is Why School? International Perspectives on Education and Social Transformation. Organizers David Bills, professor of sociology of education, Gavin Fulmer, assistant professor of science education, Gregory Hamot, professor of social studies education, Lia Plakans, associate professor of teaching and learning, and Amanda Thein, professor of language, literacy and culture, will host a three-day academic conference comprised of lectures, presentations, and panel discussions to facilitate conversations on, and increase awareness of, the purpose of schooling in society. The agenda will include the Joel Barkan Memorial Lecture, and a taping of the monthly television/radio/internet discussion program WorldCanvass. All activities of the forum are free and open to the public.

I invite you to attend and to share this invitation with your colleagues so that they may take part in some or all of the forum’s activities, which will be held in Iowa City on April 11, 12, and 13. A schedule of events can be found here.

The Provost’s Global Forum is the premier annual event on campus focused on international and global issues. In addition to serving the University of Iowa community broadly, the forum endeavors to build connections between the university and the state of Iowa, and positions the UI as a national node in discussions of global affairs. The forum is made possible through the generous support of the Stanley-UI Foundation Support Organization.
