University of Iowa

International Travel Health Insurance and Emergency Services Program

Faculty and Staff Colleagues:

In early 2012, the three Regents universities adopted an International Travel Health Insurance and Emergency Services Program.  The program is free for faculty and staff who are traveling internationally on University business.

We are pleased to say that the response of the University community to this program has been very positive.  To ensure that the program is as effective as possible, we ask that you take the following steps:

  • register at least 30 days prior to travel through the University's ProTrav system (http://www.uiowa.edu/purchasing/pc/protrav/; once registered you are automatically covered).
  • list ALL destinations for your trip in ProTrav (not merely the first destination or arrival airport)
  • modify your trip in ProTrav, should your travel plans change.  We are in the process of implementing the ability to cancel a trip after it has been approved.  In the meantime, please notify Deb Hughes (debra-hughes@uiowa.edu) should you need to cancel an international trip.

Highlights of program coverage and services, which are provided by Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI), can be found here: http://www.uiowa.edu/hr/benefits/insurance/IntTRVLinsfaq.html.

Contact the Benefits Office at 319-335-2676 for additional information about coverage.  Questions or concerns regarding State Department travel alerts or warnings should be directed to Autumn Tallman (autumn-tallman@uiowa.edu or 319-335-0353).
