David Baumgartner’s Retirement

Dear Colleagues,

David Baumgartner has announced his plans to retire February 11th as Assistant Provost and Director of the Pomerantz Career Center.  David joined our university community in spring of 2004.

In this brief message, it is not possible to adequately summarize the many contributions David has made during his years of service to our university.  As Assistant Provost and Director of the Pomerantz Career Center (PCC) David created a culture that promoted innovation to better meet the needs of stakeholders.  He has been an advocate for resources to grow the staff in order to better serve students on campus and greatly expand the number of employers engaged in recruiting Iowa talent.  David created the vision for, and implementation of, the Career Leadership Academy and collaborated with campus partners on the creation of the interdisciplinary Leadership Certificate.  He also led the effort to enhance first-destination outcome collection methods and reporting.  David also supported the creation of many new events and programs to serve as many students on campus as possible.

I am pleased to announce that Angi McKie has agreed to serve as interim Assistant Provost and Director of the Pomerantz Career Center as we prepare to search for a permanent replacement.

We wish David all the best as he enjoys his retirement.

Sincerely,

Tanya Uden-Holman
Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of the University College
