I am pleased to announce the 2011-2012 call for cluster hire proposals.

As was the case last year, the call this year is open with respect to area. Interested faculty members are encouraged to prepare proposals with the following general principles in mind.

Dear colleagues,

Last fall the Office of the Provost invited proposals for the next round of strategic interdisciplinary tenured/tenure track faculty hires under the UI Cluster Hire Initiative. During the spring semester, the Office of the Provost, Council of Deans, and Office of the Vice President for Research reviewed many worthy submissions. I am now pleased to announce the winning proposals for 2011-12 (with some accompanying text from those proposals):

Dear colleagues,

Last April the Office of the Provost invited proposals to recruit tenure-track or tenured faculty in two interdisciplinary clusters: "Aging in the Heartland" and "Public Humanities." Two faculty committees, one for each cluster, reviewed the proposals over the summer and in some cases raised questions with the proposing units that ultimately helped to strengthen their plans.
