Michael Barron, assistant provost for enrollment management and executive director of admissions, has announced that he plans to retire from the university at the end of this summer.  I'd like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Mike for his extraordinary service as director of the UI Office of Admissions for the last 27 years, and also share some information about how we plan to move forward.

Since 1990, the UI Center on Aging has facilitated interdisciplinary research, education, and service efforts dedicated to understanding the aging process and improving the health and well-being of older Iowans.  Over the years, the UI has also developed many other areas of strength related to aging—dealing with translational research and clinical care, gerontology, geriatric teaching and training, and population research.  Our most recent effort in this area is the Aging Mind and Brain Initiative (AMBI)—established in 2010 as part of the university’s strategic Cluster Hire Initiative—which

Tom Rice, associate provost for faculty and professor in CLAS, has announced that he will be leaving his position to assume the duties of a newly created position, faculty director of the University of Iowa’s John and Mary Pappajohn Educational Center in Des Moines.  In his new role, Tom will facilitate relationships between UI academic deans and their faculties and Des Moines area business and non-profit leaders with the dual goal of developing Des Moines-based educational programming and enhancing outreach assistance to Des Moines-based businesses and non-profits.  He will also assist the

I am pleased to announce that Lon Moeller, associate dean for the undergraduate program in the Tippie College of Business, has agreed to serve as the university's new associate provost for undergraduate education (APUE) and dean of the University College, effective July 1, 2014.  He will step into the position vacated by Beth Ingram, who recently accepted the position of provost at North Dakota State University.
