The Iowa Network for Women in Higher Education (IOWAWHE), will hold its Annual Spring Leadership Conference at the Iowa State University Alumni Center, Ames, Iowa on April 8, 2016, 8:00 am-4:00 pm. This year's conference theme is "Preparing for Leadership Challenges" and will focus on women leaders sharing their insights and experiences on some of the issues relevant for current and aspiring leaders.

The Office of the Provost has been developing a Data Digest that will provide comprehensive quantitative information about various aspects of the university, including students, faculty, staff, and budget.  We posted a small, initial set of reports in late December, and shared it with a small campus audience.  Last week we posted an updated release, and we would now like to share our efforts with a wider audience.

The University of Iowa is excited to begin its second annual Theme Semester "Just Living". This semester's focus will be on social justice and will allow for discussion and reflection on many related topics, including race, identity, environmental justice, educational access, housing and health disparities, and much more. The University of Iowa's academic mission is deeply connected to social justice, and we should be incorporating this topic in our coursework and units during the semester and beyond.

The Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) has signed a contract with CIBT Visa Services to provide passport and visa services to the University of Iowa and other CIC institutions.  The agreement with CIBT provides several benefits to UI faculty, staff and students requiring visas, passport renewals, or other travel document services.  Advantages include:

The number of UI students needing academic accommodations and the type of examination accommodations requested (e.g., double-time, alternative format, scribes, and assistive technology) has been increasing.  This increased demand for examination accommodations led SDS to ask faculty this past semester to administer examinations for UI students needing a reduced distraction testing room and/or time-and-one half time to take their examinations.
