Dear Collegiate Deans,

Please find attached a document that has recently been drafted by my office entitled “Guidelines Regarding Political Activity by Faculty of the University of Iowa.” The document was generated to ensure that UI faculty members know their rights and responsibilities under applicable policies as they engage in discourse about political matters. The guidelines are based on relevant policies described in the UI Operations Manual.

We are now accepting First-Year Seminar proposals for Fall 2017. First-Year Seminars introduce students to college-level learning, facilitate their transition to the University, and provide them with an opportunity to work closely with UI faculty, staff or a senior-level administrator. Instructors must obtain approval from their DEO or direct supervisor prior to submitting a proposal. In addition to faculty, executive and instructional staff may submit a proposal for review. Merit staff and graduate/teaching assistants are not eligible to teach a First-Year Seminar.
