A Message from the Executive Vice President and Provost

As executive vice president and provost, I am honored to oversee the academic mission at the University of Iowa.

We are a leading, comprehensive research university with a central commitment to student success.  We offer all the resources of a large public higher education institution while providing our students with a personalized experience through the highest quality instruction, state-of-the-art technology, and a myriad of experiential learning opportunities such as hands-on research, internships, and study abroad.

As a proud member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), the UI is recognized as among the top 63 research institutions in the nation.  We are a world-class academic community, where some of the world’s leading faculty in the arts, humanities, and sciences are making groundbreaking discoveries and creating world-changing art.  We believe great teams, rather than individuals, will find the answers to the biggest challenges of our time, and our long tradition of interdisciplinary scholarship and culture of collaboration are among our greatest strengths.

Together, our faculty, staff, and students are helping to create a better future for the people of Iowa, our nation, and the world, not only through their cutting-edge research but also through world class health care, art and cultural opportunities, and continuing and distance education.  Most important, we are preparing the next generation of scientists, scholars, artists, skilled professionals, leaders, and responsible global citizens who will carry on a proud legacy of engagement and excellence.

In everything we do, we are guided by a commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion, which are fundamental to our pursuit of excellence in every area of our academic mission.  We also approach every aspect of our mission from a global perspective, because we recognize that as the world becomes smaller and more interconnected, appreciation and understanding of cultures other than our own are vital for the success of our students, faculty, and staff alike.

It is a privilege to be part of this extraordinary community, and to have the opportunity to support the success of faculty, staff, and students who are doing such remarkable work every day.

Kevin C. Kregel, Ph.D.
Executive Vice President and Provost

BMindful is an initiative that seeks to meet the needs of diverse communities by providing event and conference planners with the dates of holy days of major religious faiths for five years into the future. By providing these dates in advance, BMindful seeks to help planners avoid those dates when scheduling events. BMindful does not include all religious holy days. It focuses on three major holy days for each faith—days when faith members may choose not to go to work or send their children to...
