“I’m the First” First Generation Summit

Registration for the “I’m the First” First Generation Summit will close on Wednesday, March 28. I encourage faculty and staff to consider registering for this program here: uisg.uiowa.edu/firstgen.

The goals of the Summit—which will be held on April 7—are to spread awareness and understanding of what it means to be a first-generation student and to provide resources that will be helpful both for students and for the faculty and staff who want to help them succeed. The program will consist of speakers, presentations, networking, and celebration of first-generation students at Iowa.

Nearly one quarter of undergraduates at the University of Iowa are first-generation college students, or the first in their family to obtain a bachelor’s degree. The planning committee for the Summit, led by the University of Iowa Student Government, is working in collaboration with the First Generation Student Task Force. The Task Force is a committee of faculty and staff brought together by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.
