Recognition, Awards and Grants for Mentoring at The University of Iowa

  • Carver College of Medicine Distinguished Mentoring Award. This award is intended to honor Carver College of Medicine faculty members whose distinguished careers have resulted in the mentoring of individuals who went on to their own distinguished careers. In its broadest sense, mentoring is meant to include research training, classroom teaching, clinical training and faculty career development.
  • Dewey Stuit Fund in Liberal Arts and Sciences (The). The Dewey Stuit Fund in Liberal Arts and Sciences is an endowed fund created by friends and former colleagues of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences long-term (1948-1977) former Dean, Professor Dewey Stuit. Its purpose is to promote the development of mentor-protégé relationships between undergraduate students and faculty members.
  • Graduate College Outstanding Mentor Award. The Graduate College Outstanding Mentor Award recognizes and rewards exemplary mentoring efforts. Each year, the Graduate College gives two $2500 awards.
  • Hubert E. Storer Engineering Student Entrepreneurial Start-Up Award. Undergraduate student recipients will be allowed to register their award as a qualified internship on their transcript. Each student recipient will have access to an entrepreneurial mentor, provided by the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center.
  • MBA Alumni Mentor of the Year Award. The MBA Alumni Mentoring Program is designed to match incoming MBA students with alumni whose backgrounds and career interests are similar. The alumni then provide the students with advice regarding career direction, critique their résumés and general academic and professional insights.
