What is The Iowa Promise?

The Iowa Promise is the title of The University of Iowa's Strategic Plan-- and its commitment to the people of Iowa.
The original Iowa Promise, our strategic plan for 2005-2010, was so titled to reflect two different kinds of “promise." First, it referred to our potential—the possibilities and opportunities that are growing on our campus every day, because of the talent, ingenuity, and hard work of our faculty, staff, and students. Second, it affirmed our pledge—our promise—to those we serve: to use our extraordinary talents and resources to transform the lives of Iowans and others for the better.
As we look to the future, we renew our pledge to the people of Iowa. And, we renew our dedication to realizing the fullness of our potential—to achieving even greater national and international distinction than we enjoy today.
In September 2010, the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, approved the University's strategic plan for 2010-2016: Renewing The Iowa Promise.
