Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Dean of
International
Programs William M. Reisinger is a political scientist who studies
democratization, public opinion and Russian politics. Before joining the
Office of the Provost, Reisinger served as chair of the Department of
Political Science. He was previously director of the UI National
Resource Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies (CREEES).
He is a fellow of the UI Center for Human Rights.
A graduate of the University of Oregon, Reisinger holds M.A. and Ph.D.
degrees from the University of Michigan. He began teaching at the UI in
1985. He was promoted to full professor at the UI in 1996.
He has authored or edited six books, most recently The 1999-2000
Elections in Russia: Their Impact and Legacy (Cambridge, 2003). He
is also the author or co-author of over 45 articles and book chapters.
He received the Jack L. Walker Award from the Political Organizations
and Parties section of the American Political Science Association (APSA)
for the best article published in 2000.
His professional activities include membership in the APSA, the Midwest
Political Science Association (MWPSA), and the American Association for
the Advancement of Slavic Studies. He has served on various committees
of the APSA, MWPSA, International Research and Exchanges Board, Social
Science Research Council, American Council of Teachers of Russian, and
Junior Faculty Development Program of the U.S. Department of State.
Reisinger is the recipient of fellowships from the Fulbright-Hays
program, the International Research and Exchanges Board and the UI's
Obermann Center for Advanced Studies. In support of his research, he has
received National Science Foundation grants totaling a half million
dollars.
